Some stumbled, while the others struggled to keep pace and still others gave up performing the asanas midway as yoga guru Ramdev held a training camp for Haryana’s Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula.
In run-up to the International Yoga Day on June 21, Ramdev who is the brand ambassador of Haryana is holding a two-day “Yog Prashikshan Shivir” that will conclude tomorrow. As he taught yoga techniques to the gathering, Ramdev took potshots at the fitness levels of those present, commented on the single status of the Chief Minister and remarked on how Muslim countries have extended support for International Yoga Day.
Ramdev started the camp by telling those gathered about the various kinds of pranayam. “Do not do it in Haryanvi style,” he quipped, adding, “Zor se nahi karna (Don’t do it too hard). It should not happen that you say we have done in a minute what I asked you to do in five.”
He went on to comment how there are cancer cells in every body. He said that the air, water, soil, everything is faulty, adding that pranayam provides protection to the body. Performing yoga regularly, one can live up to a 100 years, said Ramdev asking everyone to perform the yog asanas. “Fifty per cent women in Haryana are anaemic. In Mewat, people even have 4 Hb (count). My Hb remains 17.5 all the time, so I can work for 18 hours a day,” he said.
Ramdev said some use ‘Fair and Lovely’ to look good. The trend of using creams and powders can also be found in the villages in Haryana. He said it is through kapal bhati that people can become smart.
Ramdev then asked the gathering to keep thumbs on their waist and try to hold their stomach in their hands such that the hands should join. Almost every one in the gathering failed to do so. At this Ramdev took potshots at the Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma. “Ram Bilas ji, there is still a gap of two feet between the hands. Seems you have eaten a lot of kheer,” he said.
Moving on to the Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, Ramdev quipped, “You have made me brand ambassador. Now you will have to lose some weight.” He further said, “Tu bhi baba, hum bhi babe. Yeh sarkar hi babon ki hai. Yahan ke CM bhi chade hain.”
Teaching an asana to prevent snoring, he said single people like Anil Vij and the CM do not face problems like partners complaining about snoring in sleep. It is a problem for married people.
Ramdev also taught the asanas that are to be performed on International Yoga Day. He said that 47 Muslim countries have given their consent. He added yoga is not associated with any religion. Some Muslim organisations are also participating. He listed out diseases which he claimed can be cured through yoga. He then called Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on to the stage to perform a few asanas with him. Surya Namaskar, which has not been made part of the asanas to be performed on International Yoga Day, was also performed. Ramdev said it had no relation to worshiping the sun. Leaders of the Congress and INLD were, however, conspicuous by their absence.
